Introduction

The Federal Bureau of Investigation or what is popularly known as the FBI is the body bestowed with the responsibility of U.S. domestic intelligence and security. The sensitivity of the mandate of this organization gives it no room for laxity, as shown by its strategy that clearly identifies where the entity is as well as where it is headed.

The strategy of this organization is led by the mission and vision statements that reflect the authority that the institution commands in what it does. The U.S government considers the security of its citizens a priority, and that is why the mission and vision statement of the FBI unequivocally underscores its obdurate approach to all related matters. In fact, they reveal the diversity of its responsibilities, showing that the FBI is the ultimate pacesetter in the security industry.

The model of a corporate vision statement indicates that it is a statement that defines where the organization wants to be in a set period of time. FBI shows that it is conversant with this definition of the vision statement by crafting one that incorporates all the essential elements that show why the company has recorded constant success and where it seeks to be. On the other hand, a mission statement defines the activities that direct the company towards the vision. FBI mission statement outlines all the responsibilities of the company and the impact in the nation arising from the fulfillment of these tasks. The dynamic culture of this company is cultivated by the various core values grouped under the strategy pillars, and these, together with the mission and vision statements make up the ever-robust law enforcement agency.

Mission Statement

FBI’s mission statement is “to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners; and to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is responsive to the needs of the public and is faithful to the Constitution of the United States.” The statement reflects the authority characterizing the agency within its areas of jurisdiction, as well as the overall impact it has on the security of the U.S. The following components can be linked to this mission statement:

  1. Improvement of life. To satisfy this component, the FBI stays alert and ready to thwart any forms of terrorism against the American people. The agency recognizes that security and quality lives of its citizens are inseparable, and that is why it commits virtually all its resources to enforce and create the secure United States of America. For instance, after the 9/11 terrorist attack, the FBI became even more versatile and alert through its sophisticated and highly integrative systems to ensure it maintains security as its number one of its many primary concerns.
  2. Enforcing criminal laws of the U.S. FBI is at the center of enforcing the law in the U.S. The body is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, all of which revolve around ensuring all individuals and organizations within and beyond its borders respect the laws of the land. Due to the diversity of the activities that it is involved in, the FBI strategically categorizes its scope of operations to ensure it meets each of its demands, and in the most efficient and effective ways.
  3. Uphold public and constitutional needs. While the FBI is responsible for criminal justice services, the organization is sensitive to public needs, especially during its everyday operations. To ensure it does not go overboard while performing its duties, the FBI operates under strict rules and guidelines that are also enshrined in the constitution. By protecting all its activities in this way, the agency protects its image as one that is not only credible but also trustworthy.

Vision Statement

FBI’s vision statement is “ahead of the threat through leadership, agility, and integration.” The statement reflects the preparedness that characterizes the agency. It also shows how influential the organization is as a leader in national security matters. The following characteristics relate to the FBI’s vision statement:

  1. Ahead of the threat through leadership. FBI considers its work as an important aspect for the stability of the U.S. Due to this expectation, the agency only goes for the best-proven experts with an undebatable track record to lead the organization in its operations. For instance, the director of the agency, Christopher Wray, is a major example of what is replicated in all the departments.
  2. Ahead of the threat through agility.   To meet this component of its vision, the FBI uses state of the art technologies to stay up to date with the security of the U.S and around the globe. It also exploits its AI technologies and other federal machinery to give it an edge in its routine criminal justice and counterterrorism activities.
  3. Ahead of the threat through integration. While the FBI is an independent security body, the agency recognizes the power of pulling efforts to achieve its purposes. For instance, the FBI indicates that the better it knows its communities, the better for the organization to protect them. In this statement, the FBI shows how much it values empowering and working side by side with other parties including the communities.

Core Values

FBI core values include “improve workforce development, accountability and transparency, transform recruitment and hiring, deploy innovative solutions, strengthen partnerships, and focus on leadership in every aspect of the FBI.”  All these values are defined as the strategic pillars of the FBI, and therefore, they are critical to the overall success of the agency.

Through its values, the FBI illustrates how important it considers the empowerment and development of its workforce starting with skill-oriented hiring. It also insists on the creation of a practice led by accountability and transparency to boost the credibility of its work. Similarly, the FBI recognizes the difference innovations, and partnership with other relevant bodies would have on the success of its security and justice work in the U.S. Finally, with leadership that trickles down to all departments and officers, FBI is confident of delivering its mandate to the people of the U.S.
