Introduction

The New York University (NYU) mission and vision statements are a reflection of the academic growth and success the institution has achieved so far. The focus on excellence and distinguished quality in everything it does from research, teaching, and scholarships is an element that shows the uniqueness of these mission and vision statement.

The definition of a vision statement indicates that it gives roadmap of where a corporation would want to be in the future. On the other hand, a corporate mission statement describes the strategic actions that would make the future a reality. In this case analysis, both the mission and vision statements of NYU focus on the developmental path of the institution, and the difference that it makes in the academic and research sector.

Since 1831, NYU has remained focused on its mandate, and this is partly because of its dynamic culture fueled by its core values. With the core values and the mission and vision statements, NYU has recorded a surprisingly impressive growth path in the academic industry.

Mission Statement

NYU mission statement is “to be a top quality international center of scholarship, teaching, and research.” In this statement, NYU focus is on the impact it can have on all aspects of life through research and teaching. Some of the major components in this mission statement include:

  1. Improving lives
  2. Transforming communities

In the first component of this mission statement, various activities of NYU and practices demonstrate how highly the institution values making a difference in the lives of the young scholars. NYU achieves this duty through its highly differentiated and focusses academic programs. It also offers learning opportunities to the disadvantaged through its scholarship programs. To ensure students maximally benefit, NYU ensures they enjoy the best university life as well. The impacts of NYU extends to the communities as shown in the second component. Through its diverse research, NYU has shown its dedication to solving social problems to create better societies. Additionally, the seamless interaction between the university and the surrounding cities has enabled it to impact the people over the decades.

Vision Statement

NYU vision statement is “to establish a system of rational and practical education fitting for all and graciously opened to all.” While this is not the official vision statement, it can be adopted to represent what the institution has been about ever since it was launched in 1831. This was Albert Gallatin vision about NYU then, and the institution has maintained this focus. The mission statement has the following points.

  1. Rational and practical education
  2. For all and open for everyone

To satisfy the first point, NYU remains highly disciplined and structured in the programs that it offers. The institution only provides practical education led by research to ensure it makes a difference by solving current problems. In addition, it ensures that the education and research it offers is enjoyed by all people from the world without discrimination of any form.

Core Values

NYU core values comprise “being ethical, efficient learning, equity, diversity, and inclusion.”  NYU considers these as its guiding principles. With these, the facility has established a strong culture that not only welcomes everyone into the institution but also promotes the credibility of its education and research. Today, NYU is one of the most recognized education establishment globally.
