Ascension was started in 1999 after daughters of the Charity National Health System and sisters of St. Joseph health system merged to create a non-profit catholic health care system. It was known as Ascension Health initially and was renamed Ascension. In times of pandemic, Ascension provided $2.4 billion in care to the impoverished and underprivileged people.
