CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Mission and Vision Statement Analysis

CBP’s mission statement is “to safeguard America’s borders thereby protecting the public from dangerous people and materials while enhancing the Nation’s global economic competitiveness by enabling legitimate trade and travel.” The statement focusses on what the federal arm does to protect the interest of its citizens. It relates to the following major points:

  2. Enhancing lives

CPB’s (Customs and Border Protection) primary role is to protect the interests of American citizens by ensuring the borders are protected and regulated to only allow people and goods with potential benefits. In this way, this organization satisfies the first point in its mission statement. The second point is also closely related to the first one. To meet the needs of this point, CBP has to remain strict and thorough while verifying immigrants and imports to ensure they are not a threat to the lives of Americans such as terrorists or harmful products. In addition, this also includes anything that would pose unfair competition to the locals leading to negative economic impacts.

CBP’s vision statement is “to serve as the premier law enforcement agency enhancing the Nation’s safety, security, and prosperity through collaboration, innovation, and integration.” The statement reveals its determination to be the best in everything that it does, including teaming up with other establishments for the efficiency of its work. The statement comprises of these elements:

  1. Serve as the premier agency
  2. Enhancing the nations safety, security, and prosperity

The primary wish of CBP is to persistently improve the way it executes its work to assure perfection in border control. The organization does this by constantly integrating and applying the latest knowledge, innovations, and team efforts. In this way, it also makes significant steps to achieve the second element in its vision statement of boosting the safety, prosperity, and security of America in general.

Core Values

CBP’s core values include “vigilance, service to country, integrity.” By incorporating these three principles in everything it does, CBP has managed to remain steady throughout its operations ever since its establishment in 2003. The presence of these values is also demonstrated by the unity of the entire workforce in all of its departments.
