HCA Mission And Vision Statement Analysis

The Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) is the premier health care organization in the United States. It was established in 1968 by the Frist father-son duo, Thomas Sr. and Thomas Jr., along with their business partner Jack Massey. Its primary aim was to enable various hospitals to provide patient-focused services by bolstering their resources. Thomas Frist’s own hospital, Park View Hospital, provided the groundwork for the business to prosper.

And prosper it did, for just within a year, HCA had 10 more hospitals under its wing, after which it went public on the NYSE. Today, the company owns and manages nearly 2200 healthcare sites throughout the US and the UK. This respectable American establishment stands at 62 on the Fortune 500 rankings of 2021. But does the HCA mission and vision meet the global standards of healthcare and its services for that matter?

HCA Mission Statement

The HCA mission statement is “We are committed to the care and improvement of human life.” Nowhere here does it state its business ideals or company focus, which is a good thing. It shows that HCA genuinely works toward improving the healthcare facilities provided in the region in which it is active. Their commitment to the cause of caring and improving HUMAN life is highlighted, which proves their obligation to human beings as a whole, regardless of race, caste, creed, etc.

The HCA mission statement further emphasizes the company’s focus on genuine patient care rather than paltry profits by stating, “We put patients first and affirm the unique worth of each individual.” It means that HCA believes in providing exceptional service to every patient in the US and the UK and that it puts the patient’s needs before counting its profits.

HCA Vision Statement

The HCA vision statement says, “We treat all those we serve with compassion and kindness.” A cure to a disease doesn’t always stem from medicine. Sometimes, a bit of kindness and compassion, empathy, and understanding, works wonders for human health. Doctors who only focus their skills on treating the person are effective. But doctors who are equally efficient at treatment and at showing a bit of empathy are considered to be the epitome of greatness. And that is how HCA trains their doctors, for eventual greatness!

HCA Core Values

The HCA core values are:

  1. Uniqueness and Individuality: The HCA considers every individual a unique patient. Its medical personnel is trained to explore every facet of your health and well-being before coming up with a solution. That is because they believe in the phrase, “No two human bodies are exactly alike,” thus prompting their doctors to treat you in a unique way.
  2. Kindness and Compassion: This value simply reiterates the HCA vision statement. Compassion and kindness are often as good as any effective medicine.
  3. Honesty, Integrity, and Fairness: HCA may be a for-profit organization, but its medical quotes and finances are pretty open to review. It strives to maintain its 54-year-long integrity by providing transparency and perfectly fair rates to its patients.
  4. Loyalty, Respect, and Dignity: How could an HCA employee perform well if he/she isn’t treated with respect by their colleagues? The HCA mission and vision encourage its staff members to mingle and treat each other fairly.
