ICE Mission and Vision Statements Analysis

ICE mission statement and vision statement analysis

Introduction

The mission and vision statements of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) describe a body that understands its principle responsibilities, the scope of operations, and has the ambition to become better in service provision. The federal agency has been in operation since 2003, recording notable success in its work as defined by its mission. A corporate mission statement shows what a company does. In contrast, a corporate vision statement is a representation of what a company wants to achieve.

In this case analysis of ICE, the mission statement illustrates the duties of the agency and its areas of jurisdiction. It specifically isolates the protection of Americans from cross-border threats as the main role. The vision statement relates to the mission by focusing on the importance of ICE gaining more vigilance and being a top security agency for the nation. The incorporation of specific core values makes ICE unique and strengthens its efforts in the execution of duties.

ICE Mission Statement

ICE mission statement is “to protect America from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety.” The agency contributes to this mission by:

  1. Enforcement of laws
  2. Improving communities

As a law enforcement agency with a specified scope, ICE uses over 400 federal statutes to promote better immigration systems such as screening and processing. The presence of ICE quashes terrorist threats through the borders. It also deals with the illegal entry of people or trafficking of illegal goods into the country. By doing so, the ICE protects the local communities and improves their living standards by promoting peace. It also checks transnational crime by combating networks that target American societies and resources.

Vision Statement

ICE doe not have an officially published vision statement. Through the ‘What we Do’ section, the agency clarifies its ambitions, which are a reflection of its vision.

Some of the various ways that ICE satisfies this call is by structuring itself to ensure seamless coordination among its various departments. For instance, this has been instrumental in the efficiency of coordination recorded by ERO with other state agencies.

Core Values

ICE core values include “quality and professionalism, integrity, ethical behavior, trust, and high standards.” For such a federal agency to succeed in its work, it must stimulate a healthy working environment where everyone feels part of the course. ICE achieves this through these core values.
