Baylor Vision and Mission Analysis

Baylor’s mission statement is that it “exists to serve all people by providing personalized health and wellness through exemplary care, education, and research as a Christian ministry of healing.” This mission has three crucial parameters when it comes to the provision of personalized healthcare. They are exemplary care, education, and research. It is important to note that these parameters draw their existence from Christian ideals when it comes to healing and taking care of the sick.

A breakdown of these parameters provides an in-depth understanding of their relevance to healthcare.  

  1. Easy healthcare: Baylor understands that caring for patients is a spiritual calling and a professional undertaking. Consequently, it places a great emphasis on the safety, happiness, and relative comfort of its patients. The company also knows that patients are at the mercy of those who care for them. That is why it focuses on ensuring that the quality of services at its facilities are beyond reproach. In other words, everything that it does must be pleasing to family members and to God as well. Therefore, family members and friends should take their loved ones to Baylor knowing that their loved ones will be safe and happy at this hospital.
  2. Increasing Levels of Education: Baylor transfers basic knowledge especially preventative care to its patients and their families to reduce the risk of recurrent infections or diseases. More importantly, Baylor places a great emphasis on educating its staff. It ensures that it hires the most qualified staff who have completed years of training in addition to having an adequate level of experience. It also takes its staff through refresher courses in addition to sponsoring additional learning.
  3. Extensive Research: Focusing on research to deal with new challenges is critical for medical facilities especially teaching hospitals like Baylor. Fortunately, Baylor takes up this challenge wholeheartedly. For example, it has numerous research labs with well-trained staff. It also has a field staff that helps it gather data within the community and its environs.

Introduction

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, popularly known as Baylor, is a teaching hospital in Temple, Texas. Dr. Arthur Scott and Dr. Raleigh White founded it in 1897 making it one of the oldest institutions in Texas. Baylor’s mission and vision statement reflect the true nature of this company – quality in everything it touches. Just as enshrined in the corporate mission statement of a company, Baylor’s mission outlines its strategies for promoting personalized healthcare and wellness.

It seeks to achieve this mission through the implementation of Christian ideals in its practices as well as conducting extensive research into personalized healthcare to help it fulfill its mission. Baylor does these things in line with its vision of being a trusted name in healthcare in the future. More specifically, it wants its patients to feel safe and valued. It recognizes that only quality and compassionate healthcare would make them feel that way. Being a Christian institution means that it has to operate under a given set of values in addition to having a mission and vision.

These values include integrity, teamwork, and innovation. They are an expression of Baylor Christian roots. Therefore, one can say that Baylor is on a mission to provide personalized health supported by a set of values that will help it achieve its vision of being a trusted name in healthcare. 

Vision Statement

Baylor’s vision statement is “to be the most trusted name in giving and receiving safe, quality, compassionate health care.” This vision reflects the perception of the American people when it comes to the delivery of health care in the country. More specifically, they have lost faith in the US healthcare industry. They feel that it is too expensive. They also feel that hospitals care more about money than they do about patients. Baylor seeks to change this perception especially when it comes to the people who live in Temple, Texas. It envisions itself as a hospital that people can trust even if they do not trust other healthcare facilities. The people who own and run it want to see it as an institution that patients can go to if they are looking for quality healthcare delivered in a compassionate way. The only way of understanding this vision is by breaking it down into its two components.

The first one is becoming a trusted name even though it already has a solid reputation in the community in which it operates. Bayer has been serving the residents of Temple, Texas for decades. More specifically, it has been serving them for over one hundred and twenty years. It wants people to see it as a reliable institution that successive family generations have gone to for their medical needs.

The second one is offering compassionate healthcare. Baylor understands that some of the best doctors in the country treat their patients in the most inhumane way because they have numerous patients to see and loads of money to make. Baylor is different. It has the best doctors in the country, but they deal with their patients gently and caringly.     

Core Values

Baylor’s core values are “integrity, servant-hood, teamwork, excellence, innovation, and stewardship.“These values reflect the Christian principles that drive the institution. These values are also important to the people of Temple, Texas regardless of their religious affiliation. Understanding this importance is possible if one examines each value on its own.

  1. Integrity: In this case, Baylor ensures that its staff treats patients with respect. It also ensures that they exercise the highest level of ethical standards when treating them.
  2. Servant-hood: Medical professionals at Baylor treat their patients with selfless attitudes that seek to enhance the happiness and comfort of each patient.
  3. Teamwork: Baylor encourages the positive interaction of its staff to ensure that patients receive the best treatment possible.
  4. Excellence: This Christian principle encourages medical professionals in Baylor to strive for perfection in their services. More specifically, it challenges them to do the best that they can when serving their patients.
  5. Innovation: This value is critical to Baylor because medics at the institution face new challenges every day. Therefore, the creative ability of its doctors to deal with these challenges is critical.
  6. Stewardship: Baylor handles an enormous volume of physical and human resources. Taking care of them satisfactorily is only possible if the teaching hospital has the stewards in its top management structure and it does.
